The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has accused Super Falcons
players of sabotaging Nigeria’s efforts to qualify for the 2016, Rio Olympics
football event.
This
accusation was made by NFF board member, Chief Mrs. Dilichukwu Onyedinma, in a
chat with newsmen in Abuja.
She insinuated that invited foreign based players
for the last qualification matches against Equatorial Guinea might have choosed
not to honor the game thereby jeopardizing Nigeria’s chances of qualification.
'' Most of our girls who play abroad didn't turn up for the game. I don't know if it is because they were not appreciated after conquering Africa in the AWC.''
Dilichukwu who doubles as the chairperson of the
Nigeria Women League, further hinted that the players’ actions may not be
unconnected with the fact that the Federal Government is yet to fulfill
promises made to them since they won the Africa Women Championships in October
last year.
Early
this month, Equatorial Guinea eliminated Nigeria 3-2 on aggregate in a home and
away game and several foreign based players chose not to be part of the matches
without reasonable excuses.
